Who’s In, Who’s Out?

In: Ereck Flowers, Chad Wheeler, Adam Bisnowaty

Out: Bobby Hart

Man, was I tempted to say Ereck Flowers will be out. After another disappointing season ended in the questioning of his attitude and desire to play football, cutting him seems like the logical outcome. Unfortunately, his $4.58 million cap hit is all guaranteed, meaning releasing him would result in $4.58 million in dead cap.

Flowers better get his act together, though, because Dave Gettleman is bringing a no-nonsense attitude to New York. He already showed Bobby Hart the door and could do the same to Flowers.

The uninspiring and rather thin free agent offensive tackle market is also working in Flowers’s favor. Based on who is available, it’s hard to see there not being at least a roster spot for Flowers. His starting spot, however, is far from a sure thing. Flowers will have to work his tail off to stay in the starting lineup.

Hart is already out. He was waived with an injury designation by Gettleman when he took over as general manager and landed on injured reserve when he cleared waivers. The Giants officially cut ties with Hart on Feb. 9 when they released him off I.R. Somewhat surprisingly, Hart has already found another job. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday.

Chad Wheeler and Adam Bisnowaty will both compete for reserve spots with Wheeler having an outside chance of winning the starting right tackle job if the new regime does not bring in enough offensive line help this offseason. However, if Wheeler is in the Week 1 starting lineup, the Giants’ offseason has gone terribly wrong.
