2018 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants 3-round mock 5.0
By Sean Dyer
Saquon Barkley gets all of the attention for Penn State, rightfully so, but there was another playmaker on the Nittany Lion offense.
DaeSean Hamilton finished his college career as Penn State’s all-time leader in receptions with 214. He was a four-year starter and led the Big Ten in receptions as a freshman.
Hamilton does a great job tracking the ball while it’s in the air. He also high points the football and makes plays in traffic. Hamilton runs a great fade route and comes down with contested catches.
Hamilton can be elusive after the catch and will get physical with defenders. He’s not afraid to go over the middle or up in the air with defenders in pursuit.
Jon Dove of With the First Pick also praised Hamilton’s ability as a route runner:
"Hamilton is a strong route runner who can attack all levels of the field. He does a good job maintaining his speed in and out of his breaks. His ability to disguise his routes also helps him create separation."
At 6’1, 205 lb., Hamilton has the size to play outside despite mostly lining up in the slot at Penn State.
His fearlessness and after the catch ability bode well for a slot receiver, but his physicality and ability to make plays in the air and between defenders could allow him to succeed on the outside.
With Sterling Shepard patrolling the slot for the New York Giants, Hamilton could join Odell Beckham Jr. on the outside, filling the role that Brandon Marshall was supposed to play.
Next: New York Giants 3-round mock draft 4.0
The New York Giants are able to add a day one starter at middle linebacker, a day one starter at right tackle, a potential day one situational pass rusher, and a potential day one starter as an outside receiver. All of this while gaining extra first and fourth-round picks in 2019. Sounds like a pretty good haul!
