New York Mets David Wright not giving up on playing yet
New York Mets captain David Wright still trying to play in 2018.
The New York Mets may never have a better face of the franchise than David Wright. From the moment he arrived in Queens he was the epitome of class. He did his job on the field and only drew attention to himself with his play. Off the field, Wright has been all class. We found him in the newspaper only when he was talking baseball. His name was never right before the description of a crime. He will be remembered.
We have all watched the captain work hard to come back from these various injuries and surgeries only to fall short. Is it time to give up? Not necessarily if you ask him (via ESPN):
"“I’m going to give it my best shot, certainly,” the New York Mets captain and third baseman said Saturday from the dugout of the team’s training complex. “I probably have a lot of the same questions you’re asking me and a lot of people are asking of me. I just don’t know. It’s certainly been an uphill climb for me."

Unfortunately for David, uphill climb has been an understatement. Ever since he injured his back that uphill climb has been the equivalent of Mt. Everest. Every time he has moved forward he has taken immediate steps back. He tried to play in the Florida State League last season only to shut things down after three games.
Wright’s body may just be telling him that it’s over. Don’t worry folks, he is listening:
"“To honestly answer your question, I just don’t know. I’d love to play, but my body’s got to hold up and have to cooperate with me a little bit.”"
This is going to be far easier said than done. Some of us remember what happened to Don Mattingly with the Yankees. He suffered a similar back injury and he was never the same again. Yes, he played, but he didn’t have the additional surgeries that Wright endured. It is going to be tough.
Next: No dry humping for the Mets
Everyone would love to see David Wright return, but the fact of the matter is he needs to be able to live. There is nothing for him to prove in his career. We love him for still working hard to get back on the field, and nobody will fault him if it doesn’t work out.
