30. Pick Analysis. 2. player. Will Hernandez. Scouting Report. OG. UTEP

Just drafted a quarterback with an injury history? Better keep him protected!

The New York Jets need to improve their offensive line and Will Hernandez can step in right away at left guard and stay there for 10+ years.

Hernandez is an old school blocker who plays with a nasty streak. This dude is a mountain of a man and can demoralize pass rushers with his strength.

Hernandez excels in the running game. He explodes off the line, grabbing hold of defenders with his strong hands and doesn’t let go. He’s able to move defenders backward, creating a new line of scrimmage a few yards downfield.

Able to quickly move to the second level, Hernandez has good balance and technique which allow him to avoid missed blocks.

Hernandez brings his nasty streak to pass protection as well. He has good awareness and keeps a wide base to shut down pass rushers.

Jon Dove of With the First Pick loves Hernandez’s physical style of play and sees him having a long career in the NFL:

"Will Hernandez is a thick and barrel-chested offensive guard prospect. He backs up his size with excellent raw strength and proper technique. Hernandez is one of the more physical players in the 2018 NFL Draft class and someone who plays with a nasty streak. … Overall, Hernandez is a physical force and someone who will set the tone for an offensive line. He is a plug-and-play prospect who should be a long term starter in the NFL."

After a disappointing 2017 season, the Jets could look to move on from James Carpenter, opening up a starting spot at left guard for Hernandez to take over.

Adding Hernandez will help keep Josh Rosen clean and improve a running game that can take pressure off of the young quarterback.
