Get Kirk Cousins

More from Empire Writes Back

A move like this will likely earn Maccagnan a great many cards and letters rather than just one from me on Valentine’s Day. This move would set the Jets fan base buzzing for sure. Why wouldn’t it? It is not often that a quarterback of this caliber is available on the open market. With the acquisition of Alex Smith by the Redskins, this appears to be exactly what Kirk Cousins will be. He will be available to the highest bidder.

Make no mistake about it. Kirk Cousins would amount to the best quarterback the Jets have had on their team in decades. Chad Pennington would be comparable with regards to accuracy but Cousins has a bigger arm. He can also make plays with his legs which is something Pennington couldn’t do. He is still in his prime, turning 30 years old. Just look at the stats and they don’t lie. They will tell you how good he is.

The Jimmy Garoppolo contract virtually ensures that any investment in Cousins will be at least $30 million per year. The Jets can handle it. Once Muhammad Wilkerson is released they will have approximately $100 million in salary cap space, and that is before any other moves are made. They can bring Cousins here and still improve the roster at other positions. Get it done.
