Who’s In, Who’s Out?

In: Eli Manning, Davis Webb

Out: Geno Smith

Although Eli Manning had a down year in 2017, he will be the New York Giants starting quarterback in 2018, at least to start the season.

It would take a crazy turn of events (Jacksonville or Denver blowing Gettleman away with a trade offer) for Manning not to be under center for Big Blue in Week 1.

Manning may not have a ton left in the tank but he’s not running on empty just yet. He’s 37 years old and can’t play forever, but if the Giants improve their offensive line and Manning’s weapons stay healthy, Eli could have another year or two of quality football left in him.

Davis Webb has yet to take a regular season snap in the NFL but he’s not going anywhere. Is he the future for the Giants at quarterback? Who knows. But he’ll certainly play out his rookie contract in New York.

We never got to see Ryan Nassib (Eli’s original successor) take any significant regular season snaps. Webb’s Giants career could easily go the same way. But perhaps we’ll see Webb under center leading the Giants in the near future.

Geno Smith is a free agent and he was not happy about getting pulled after one week of replacing Manning. He seems destined to find a new employer, especially with talk of the Giants drafting another quarterback this year.
