If the New York Giants want to change the course of their franchise, they’ll need to make some bold moves on draft day.

The New York Giants are in a position that they should have never been in, but they committed the classic sin of a franchise. The pride of the Giants never allowed them to truly restock and retool the team’s weak spots, always thinking they could find the next best thing in the late rounds of drafts or buy their way out of trouble.

The old regime spent hundreds of millions in guaranteed money a few years back to fix the defensive line and back end but still left the linebacker position barren of any true defensive studs or leaders.

The new regime will be required to fix more problems with fewer resources. The first action is to get out of denial. It’s great they have Eli Manning, but “dirty dancing” won’t be enough to repair this broken offense. Dave Gettleman must bring in workhorses and if they don’t have the cap space to do so in free agency, then they must bring in young horses through the draft that have the chance to be thoroughbreds.

First, the Giants need to bring in the big boys. With no push up front on either side of the ball, all the schemes in the world will not mask horrible line play for an entire game.

So, while everyone else turns their view to free agency, which we will touch on once we get closer to the new league year and the Giants make those cap-cutting moves to add about $20 million to the books this offseason, let’s turn our sites to bold draft moves that can make the difference for the New York Giants.
