The New York Mets front office might not be on vacation after all! The Mets signed former Yankees infielder Todd Frazier to a two-year deal on Monday.

According to reports, the New York Mets signed Todd Frazier to a two-year deal worth $17 million. The deal keeps the third base slugger in the New York metropolitan area.

The New York Mets finally filled a huge need. The Jay Bruce deal was encouraging. After getting Adrian Gonzalez, I was less than content. To me, it causes more of a problem than fills a need.

This Frazier deal, however, fulfills a need in many different aspects.

New York’s NL team now has a third baseman. No, I did not forget about David Wright. I am being realistic.

The hot corner for the Mets has a worthy candidate in “The Todd Father”. The position does not have to be platooned now, but still technically can be.

Wilmer Flores might be better off splitting reps at second base with Jose Reyes and company until he emerges as an everyday player.

Asdrubal Cabrera is in the mix as an infielder who can bounce around too.

However, Frazier is now a solid everyday player. It fulfills a huge need.

The Mets went out and got a player from the Yankees. Much like how they did with Curtis Granderson a few years ago.

More from New York Mets

Other similarities they share is that both are familiar with the intense market, are both solid all-around players, and provide charismatic and veteran leadership.

The Mets’ offseason has been highlighted by reunions, putting a young prospect on his heels, and giving a fan the prom of her life.

None of those things are terrible but they are not exactly moves that drastically improve a roster that lost 90 games last year.

The Frazier signing does help improve the roster. Amed Rosario at short with a player like Todd at third sounds fun.

To me, the Mets outdid themselves here. I’ve heard his name being surfaced around before but never thought the Mets would actually act on it.

The 2018 season still likely comes down to the health of the pitching staff and whatever bullpen experiments they do.

However, Todd Frazier makes the infield better. That is one less thing to worry about.

So yes, the offseason is now a little more successful.

Go Mets!
