New York Mets: Observations on the Todd Frazier signing
Making some general observations of the New York Mets newest acquisition, Todd Frazier.
That was some big news, wasn’t it, New York Mets fans? Todd Frazier is the newest team acquisition. The third baseman was acquired on a two-year, $17 million contract. He changes boroughs after playing for the Yankees last season. The Yankees had acquired him from the Chicago White Sox. Frazier sets to be the new starting third baseman when the 2018 season opens up.
Does it make the Mets a playoff team? The difference is not huge without a big season from the pitching staff. Here are some other observations on the acquisition.

First of all, were any other fans rubbing their eyes? The Wilpons actually allowed a move of this nature to happen? How? Did Sandy Alderson find the secret code to unlock the check book? Alderson must have done something to impede Fred and/or Jeff Wilpon from objecting to the move. If I am being totally honest this was the first thing that came into my head.
Clearly, Todd Frazier is a team player. He will do what is needed to win. How do I know? I listen to Mets beat reporter Joel Sherman:
Keep in mind that Frazier hasn’t even played a full season at first base (94 games). However, he is willing to player there in order to accommodate the face of the Mets. Now we all know that it isn’t likely. Wright is basically done. But if he somehow does get back to playing, Frazier is willing to play first, which shows the adaptability of the player and another reason why most fans were shocked when they heard this now.
Next: Interesting strategy for the Mets bullpen
Frazier is actually a good choice as his impact will be strong. After all he does average 30 home runs per season. Even with the off-season last year, he hit 27. He doesn’t add much besides the power anymore, but third base is traditionally a power position. If he can field to his career mark of .965% at third base, Frazier and the Mets will be just fine.
Finally Mets fans. Rejoice. Your team made a significant move. It’s about time.
