The New York Knicks system of carrying four centers on the roster is imploding right before their very eyes.

The New York Knicks made a very interesting call with this year’s roster. They decided to carry four centers on the roster. Enes Kanter, Joakim Noah, Willy Hernangomez and Kyle O’Quinn are a lot of big bodies. Even if we forget that the NBA has gone away from using a lot of traditional centers, this is a big depth chart at the position.

If anyone had forgotten, there are only 48 minutes in a regulation NBA game. There are only so many minutes to go around. With four guys that believe they can make a contribution, a rotation like this is eventually going to cause problems. These guys are going to want in, and if they can’t get in to the game they are going to want out.

That is exactly what is happening, Knicks fans. The idea of keeping all four is coming apart at the seams. First came the Joakim Noah situation. That has been well-documented as it heads to a messy divorce. We may have seen the last of Noah with the Knicks.

Now we have the situation regarding Willy Hernangomez. According to the NY Daily News, Hernangomez has requested a trade through his agent. Why? He wants to play. Per the report, Hernangomez has received interest on the trade market from multiple teams including the Utah Jazz.

Not that it is appropriate to act out against the coach like Noah did, but it is understandable that both of these guys are upset. Hernangomez is averaging 9.2 minutes per game and Noah is averaging 5.7. Noah is averaging 1.7 points per game and Hernangomez is averaging 4.4. It is hard to get your scoring going with your warmups on and your rear end on the bench though.

The concept was a failed one from the beginning. Now we are seeing the end.
