The New York Rangers lose another forward but see discipline on behalf of another.

Good evening. It’s Monday night and the New York Rangers try to get off the ropes as they take on Dallas at 8:30 PM. While we get ready to see if the team can figure out how to score again, let’s take a look at some of the most recent news involving the team.

In an already bad year for injuries, the Rangers have lost another forward. Pavel Buchnevich is going to be out indefinitely with what is being called an upper body injury. Buchnevich was injured during the 4-0 loss to the Maple Leafs last week. At the time of the injury, he put up 13 goals and 19 assists, an influence that will definitely be missed. With two goals in the last two games, this is already evident.

In other news, does everyone remember the vicious hit Jimmy Vesey took against the Predators? Watch it here if you need to be reminded. Vinny Lettieri has been recalled to replace him, at least for tonight against Dallas.  That news turned into a three-game suspension for Filip Forsberg for putting the hit on Vesey that knocked him out of the game in Nashville. One could argue that in order to make a bigger statement in favor of safety, a longer suspension was warranted. Three games is what he got which will cause Forsberg to forfeit nearly $100,000 in salary.

On the Vesey hit, I am of the camp that believes he deserved more than three games. The players that went after Forsberg following the play were absolutely right as he deserved it. There was no reason for him to go for Vesey’s head. If I had been skating around as a referee I would have considered a game misconduct. It’s a rough game, no doubt. But it looked like headhunting and that cannot be accepted to any degree in today’s game.

Buchnevich on the shelf will not help at all. The team is having a tough time scoring. They need all of the scorers they can get. The King will have shots get past his throne. He is a human king. Without Pavel, and still without Chris Kreider, they need to find goals and find them quickly.
