The New York Knicks and Joakim Noah are heading towards a sharp divorce. Will they make it happen?

Once in a while, when a player acts out against his coach, the team will react in the appropriate manner. It seems like this is how the New York Knicks are looking to handle Joakim Noah. They want him out of town and apparently doesn’t matter what it takes.

We have all heard how this began. Noah got into a heated exchange of words with head coach Jeff Hornacek. According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, the two parties had to be separated. Even in today’s society with the “modern athlete”, this is unacceptable. Any player needs to show respect for the chain of command. Disrespecting the coach cannot and should not be tolerated.

The Knicks are prepared to do something about it. Noah has not been with the team since. According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the team is willing to include their upcoming first round pick in a trade to send Noah away.

If the season ended today, the Knicks would have a lottery pick, meaning the choice could be in the top ten. If the season ends with the Knicks in the lottery, that is a solid package for a contending team. A first round pick and a veteran would be a nice acquisition for a team by the February 8 trade deadline.

Clearly we are talking about a player that the Knicks want nothing to do with anymore. He really had no more role with the team anyway. Noah’s problem had to do with playing time. If they can offload him to a contending team it’s a better situation for everyone involved.

However it may not be so easy. Yes that is a great package. But remember, the Knicks aren’t the only team that knows what happened with Noah. As a general manager of another team, I might wonder why the Knicks were so eager to get rid of this guy. It sounds good but it doesn’t mean it is going to be easy. It sounds like, however, what both parties want.
