There’s no better time of the year than NFL mock draft season! Let’s take a look at how the first three rounds could play out for the New York Jets.

This NFL mock draft train keeps on rolling! We are two deep in terms of New York Giants mock drafts and this will be our second installment of a New York Jets mock draft. I hope you’re having as much fun as I am!

If you missed our first New York Jets mock draft, no worries. You can catch up by reading it right here.

It’s only been a week since our last mock but things have changed around the NFL. Most notably, the Kansas City Chiefs traded quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins on Tuesday night. What does that mean for the Jets? Well, it assures that Kirk Cousins won’t be returning to the nation’s capital and will be exploring free agency.

The Jets need a quarterback and for the first time in a long time, a potential franchise signal caller will be hitting the open market.

This is great news as Cousins has proved he can be a solid NFL quarterback, unlike the top draft prospects.

If the Jets land a quarterback in free agency, they can take that off of their list of draft needs. They can then focus on protecting their quarterback, surrounding him with weapons, and getting back to playing championship defense.

For today’s mock draft, I kept my promise of switching up strategies. The Chiefs and Redskins certainly made that easier on Tuesday. Also, after using CBS Sports prospect rankings last week, we’ll be using Draft Wire’s rankings today.

Don’t forget that the Jets have two second-round picks because of the Sheldon Richardson trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

So let’s get this party started and check out my second three-round NFL mock draft for the New York Jets!
