Martin is a player that earned his spot during the preseason and made good on it during the season.
With 14 tackles and two sacks, Todd Bowles and company had little choice but to keep Martin on the team when the regular season opened. In week one he kept it going with five tackles and .5 sack against the Buffalo Bills.
After a four tackle performance in week two, Martin missed the next three games with an injury. Unfortunately it took the steam out of his pass rush. Martin only posted one more sack the rest of the season.
His biggest game after returning came against the Carolina Panthers. that day he posted six tackles, three of them solo. Martin proved himself to be an active player with a nose for the football. Even as a backup you can never have too many of them.
If Martin can find a way to get the pass rush going again, he could find himself in a situational pass rushing role. Can you imagine the Jets actually having one of those?
