New York Jets: Five internal free agents worth bringing back
Demario Davis
Most fans weren’t too happy with this player during his first stint with the Jets. After being selected in 2012, there were times when Demario Davis looked lost, especially in pass coverage. He would be a sitting duck every time a tight end or a running back came out on a pass route his direction. By the end of his original tenure, Davis was barely useful on passing downs.
So Davis was sent to a fate as bad as there for a football player. He was exiled to Cleveland. Davis started for the Browns for one year, posting 99 total tackles and two sacks. That was good enough for Jets management to take notice. They re-acquired Davis from the Browns in return for Calvin Pryor. Pryor is not on a team at the present moment, so just by default, the Jets got the better of the trade.
However, the proof was also in his performance. He must have learned something in Cleveland because he stepped up all facets of his game. 135 tackles kept Davis near the top of the league all season long. He showed he could lead this defense on and off the field. The pass defense even improved. Davis was selected back in 2012 with designs on him taking over for David Harris. He finally looks ready to do that and needs to be back in the fold.
