Austin Seferian-Jenkins

More from Empire Writes Back

What a story he became in 2017, am I right? The career of Austin Seferian-Jenkins was left for dead when he was in Tampa Bay. He was out of shape, oft-injured and had a drinking problem. The Buccaneers released him, he signed with the Jets last year and began to figure it out. And then, 2016 ended. Seferian-Jenkins had to make a choice of how to go forward with his life.

Lucky for Jets fans, he made the right choice. He removed alcohol from his life, lost weight and gave himself a new lease on life. He decided that getting things back together was important to him and he took all of the necessary steps.

The Jets received the benefits of a career year from “ASJ’. He caught 50 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He wasn’t a down the field threat, averaging only 7.1 yards per reception, but he did catch nearly three quarters of his targets, making him ultra-reliable. For the first time in a while, the Jets have a reliable tight end. Keep him around.
