New York Jets: Tom Brady hatred and where it really comes from

Here is why we, as New York Jets fans, truly hate Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

September 23, 2001 was a dark day for New York Jets fans. It seemed just like any other weekend. The Jets were taking on the Patriots in week two from Foxboro Stadium. It was a closely fought battle that the Jets won by the score of 10-3. It’s not the score that made it a dark day, it is just one particular play that changed the course of NFL history.

With just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Patriots faced a third and ten from deep in their own end. Drew Bledsoe dropped to pass but couldn’t find anyone. He scrambled for eight yards around the right side, but was hit and forced out of bounds by Mo Lewis. It turned out that Bledsoe sustained an injury that nearly killed him.

In walked a little known sixth round pick named Tom Brady. The rest, as they say, was history.

To put it mildly, there have been a lot of wins since then. This sixth round pick has been pretty good I would say. We could talk about all of the wins, all of the records he has set and all his other accomplishments in this league. The fact is, when Brady took over the quarterback job in New England, the franchise went to the top of the sport and hasn’t looked back.

Jets fans hate him, and hate them. Let’s face it, we hate everything they do, except when they lose a game. We went nuts, along with the rest of the country, when the Patriots lost two Super Bowls to the Giants. We go nuts if they lose ANY game.

What is it about them that turns our stomachs so much? What about him? We are all football fans, we can appreciate great play, right? Dan Marino was a sight to watch play, why isn’t this guy?

We can talk about all of the little reasons why. He spends too much time on his looks, his hair, …etc. He cries to the referees too much. All of the different “____gates” that have happened. After all, Brady and the Patriots have been sanctioned for cheating, whether one believes they did it or not. They tend to run up the score. There are plenty of reasons to hate the New England Patriots.

But none of those are why Jets fans hate them. If we look down deep, we can realize why we hate the Patriots. The reason is:

BRADY AND THE PATRIOTS ARE EVERYTHING WE WISH WE WERE.

Next: Super Bowl that no New Yorker wants to see

Be honest about it gang. Tom Brady is a guy that has been a plug and play star for over a decade. We barely have enough fingers and toes to count the number of quarterbacks we have gone through since he entered the league. We wish we had a plug and play guy. That’s what we have been searching for. Brady makes everyone better. Don’t we want a quarterback like that? Isn’t that nice to even DREAM about?

Have the Jets ever had a team where they were so good, that they could just bring in the next guy when one leaves and not get worse? Again, we wish. That’s what the Patriots are. Their system is so good that it almost doesn’t matter who they plug in. They do their job and they continue to be successful.

And that is everything Jets fans want. That’s why we hate them, and him. In this quarterback and this team, we see everything we want, thrown in our faces for years. And they are kind of smug about it, which doesn’t bring the love. But those smug guys from up THERE, are everything we want to be. So we hate them.
