Reese Era in Review: Revisiting the New York Giants 2013 NFL draft
Round 4, Pick 110: Landry Jones, Quarterback, Oklahoma
Original Pick: Ryan Nassib, Quarterback, Syracuse
Looking to develop an eventual successor for Manning, Reese traded up in the draft to grab Ryan Nassib. As it would turn out, Nassib never developed like Reese expected. The Syracuse product sat behind Manning for four years and failed to impress in the limited action he saw. Unable to even be used as a trade chip for quarterback-needy teams, Nassib wasn’t resigned after his contract was up and he hasn’t played a down since.
If the Giants were bent of drafting a quarterback at this point in the draft, Landry Jones would have been a much better choice. It’s hard to heap praise on a backup signal caller considering they barely see the light of day, but Jones has carved out a good career as a backup quarterback in the NFL. Jones has been called upon to start on several occasions for the Pittsburgh Steelers, whether it’s due to a Ben Roethlisberger injury or rest day in a meaningless game, and has failed to disappoint.
