Round 3, Pick 81: Jordan Reed, Tight End, Florida

Original Pick: Damontre Moore, Defensive End, Texas A&M

Projected by some to be the first overall selection of this draft at the end of the 2012 college football season, Damontre Moore’s stock plummeted due to poor combine and pro day showings, as well as significant off the field issues that scared teams away. However, Reese decided to take a chance on the embattled defensive lineman and, as we would all find out, that decision would blow up in his face. Recording only 8½ sacks in his three years with Big Blue, Moore turned out to be a detriment to locker room morale and was waived during the 2015 season after instigating several altercations with his teammates.

The right pick at this point in the draft would have been Jordan Reed. The Giants had nothing but pedestrian players at tight end and could have used an upgrade at the position. Despite the injury and concussion issues throughout his career, Reed is a matchup nightmare and has proved to be one of the top tight ends in the league. New York signed Brandon Myers in the lead-up to the draft, but he ended up being a tremendous free agent bust and only lasted a year with Big Blue. Even if he had to play a backup role that season, Reed would have been an excellent in-house replacement for Myers as well as a fantastic weapon for quarterback Eli Manning.
