Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall’s time with the New York Giants was certainly forgettable.

After signing a two-year deal that seemingly completed the Giants wide receiving corps, Marshall played just five games, hauling in 18 catches for 154 yards without finding the end zone.

Marshall injured his ankle in Week 5 and was placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his 2017 season and likely his Giants career.

Although Marshall technically still has one more year on his contract, the Giants can get out of it while incurring just $1 million in dead money and saving just over $5 million in cap space.

Dave Gettleman shouldn’t bother dealing with Marshall in 2018. He can use the cap savings from cutting Marshall to help solidify the offensive line.

The New York Giants receiving corps is also in good shape. Odell Beckham Jr. is obviously elite and will be back healthy in 2018. Sterling Shepard had a solid season despite missing time with injuries and can work in the slot. As for the other outside receiver position, the Giants can deploy Evan Engram who is honestly more of a receiver than a tight end.

Marshall has had a phenomenal NFL career but he’s about to be 35 years old and likely has seen his best football.

Gettleman is better off seeing what Pat Shurmur can do with Roger Lewis and Tavarres King than paying for another season of Brandon Marshall.
