The Buffalo Bills wasted no time in finding their new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. The hire comes just days after parting ways with old OC Rick Dennison. What are some things to expect with Daboll at the helm?

The Buffalo Bills hire is a bit random but Brian Daboll is still immensely qualified. There are very few people in this world who have been part of both Super Bowl and College Football Playoff National Championship teams.

Daboll did both in the last 11 months. He was part of Super Bowl LI with the Pats as a tight ends coach and then this month’s College Football Playoff National Championship with Alabama as the offensive coordinator.

I like what Daboll brings to One Bills Drive, including experience and winning.

Daboll has spent nearly his whole life in football with well over a decade of experience in the game. This includes coaching three different positions (QB, TE, and WR) and three separate offensive coordinator gigs in Cleveland, Miami, and Kansas City.

He has bounced around a lot but he is always good enough to find a new job and the move to Buffalo is a promotion.

Also, arguably the two best football coaches on the planet right now are Bill Belichick and Nick Saban.

The Bills’ new coordinator has worked as an assistant for both of them, with much success. He has won five Super Bowls with Belichick in various different roles and, like I mentioned, won the most recent national championship with Alabama.

All X’s and O’s aside, it is really hard not to trust a guy who has proven to be valuable to the two best coaches of an entire generation.

Daboll has experience as a quarterbacks coach with the Jets from 2007-2008 and also with Bama this year.

More from Empire Writes Back

With the Bills in need of a franchise QB, Daboll is a guy who can help him transition into the NFL game and help with the fundamental aspects of the position. Daboll worked with Brett Favre, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, with the Jets in 2008.

Daboll was the tight ends coach for New England last year and worked with Buffalo’s biggest pest, Rob Gronkowski. Say what you want about “Gronk” but he is talented and one of the best players in football.

Daboll has worked with some of the biggest, most successful names in football. It is hard not to pick up major pointers to being a winner when you surround yourself with names of this magnitude.

Although the Bills 2018 offensive depth chart is far from finished, expect Daboll to bring a more traditional offense back to Buffalo, using LeSean McCoy and the tight ends more frequently and relying on the quarterback to make plays.

The Buffalo Bills continue to stun their fans and football analysts everywhere with the moves they make. As someone who follows the team religiously, I never heard Daboll’s name come up in discussions.

The hire is a good one. Brian Daboll has worked with the cream of the crop in this league.

Although his last gigs as OC are not exactly noteworthy he has since worked with Saban and won more championships.

Perhaps the sweetest thing about the hire is not something that can be taught or duplicated. Daboll is from Western New York. He still owns a home there and he knows what the Buffalo Bills mean to the region.

That is all the incentive in the world to succeed in his new gig.

The Bills changed the culture at One Bills Drive in 2017 and Daboll too knows what a winning locker room acts like.

The Bills needed a change on the offensive side of the ball. Brian Daboll is that guy.

The Bills still need a quarterback but Daboll is a great start.
