The New York Giants select Josh Rosen in the first mock draft of the season written by Mel Kiper.

After a disappointing season for the New York Giants, one nobody expected, we head early into the speculation part of the offseason. Yes everyone, it’s that time of year where we all turn into football experts and know what is best. When it comes to the NFL draft, we debate for months about who the team will pick and why they are the one. It makes for a great way to keep football as part of the discussion long after it is over.

Granted, with the Combine on the horizon in February, football is never really “over”. By the way, that’s a good thing.

For some of the time, it involves writing our own mock drafts, which we will get to later on. Another element is evaluating the mock drafts of others. Recently, we took a look at one with regards to the New York Jets.

Today we are going to take a look at one from the perspective of the New York Giants. This one is the first of the year written by the ever popular Mel Kiper. OK, not popular to everyone but certainly prolific in his writing and giving his opinion about the draft prospects until draft day.

For the Big Blue, he has them selecting quarterback Josh Rosen:

"Rosen is the top pure passer in this class. He looked better than Darnold when UCLA and USC played late in the season. Rosen, however, has dealt with injuries the past two seasons, and there already have been rumblings that he doesn’t want to end up in Cleveland. There are some red flags. But some team is going to draft him high — he has rare arm talent and has been much more secure with the ball than Darnold and Allen. The Giants could move into life after Eli Manning with a new franchise quarterback."

It’s an interesting scenario that Kiper has come up with. According to Kiper, Josh Allen jumps up to the number one selection. Barring some miracle at the Combine, I just don’t see Allen jumping all the way to number one. If the Browns didn’t want Darnold I could see them taking Rosen.

For the Giants, this is a great scenario. Josh Rosen is the most pro-ready of the quarterback bunch and it is not close. He could learn behind Eli Manning and his final days with the team, if he is still here. If not, he could take the team over quickly if handled the right way.

What do you think, Giants fans?
