If you want to talk about the ideal candidate for the third base job this season, well you’ve got him right here. Miguel Andujar, the Yankees No. 5 prospect, was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2011 at the age of 16.

In 2015, Andujar started to pick up speed and show that his natural power is for real. He finished 2016 in Double-A and continued to hit in the Arizona Fall League. In 2017, he continued to climb up the ladder, earning the promotion to Triple-A and, eventually, the majors on June 28, where he made his MLB debut in which he went 3-4 with a double, a walk, and four RBI to assist in a 12-3 rout over the White Sox.

When the Yankees inquired about now Houston Astros starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, the Pittsburgh Pirates wanted Andujar to be a core piece of the trade, which the Yankees declined. That could lead us to believe that he will be at least on the major league roster.

Andujar needs some work with the glove, but that doesn’t stop people from believing that he is ready to take over the starting third base job.
