The New York Jets need to follow the Tennessee way to build the offense.

This offseason is a major one for the New York Jets. One might say it’s the biggest, especially for the regime of Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles. It’s time to make some serious headway in building this team towards being a contender. We have talked about it several times and will continue to be part of the conversation until draft day. There is the potential of it being the final year for this regime if they miss on the big choices.

The formula to get things done is not that hard. As tough as football the game is, the keys to setting up success really aren’t. If you want to see a team already going ahead with the formula, take a look at how the Tennessee Titans have put together their offense. When watching the game against the Patriots, it stood out right away.

The first came in 2014. The Titans took the first step to putting together an offense by selecting a left tackle, Taylor Lewan. We talk about the blind side of it al the time, and the need to protect it being of the utmost importance. The Titans took care of that, and he has been in the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons.

2015 came with hitting on the young quarterback. Marcus Mariota has improved with every snap and is getting better and better. This year in the playoffs, he threw for four touchdowns versus one interception. Mariota is ready for the big time, and that is clear. Sometimes, a young team needs to lose before they put it all together. That may just be where the Titans are.

That wasn’t enough, so the Titans decided to set up book-end tackles by drafting Jack Conklin in 2016. He was only first team All-Pro in 2016. I’d say that’s pretty good. Put those components together and what do you get? A playoff team! That’s what.

The formula is fairly easy. The Jets have a right tackle in Brandon Shell. He may not be an All-Pro but he is certainly solid. Get the quarterback and find the left tackle. You know by now the quarterback I want. But get it right and find a left tackle. Fix those two spots and the foundation is there. Just like Tennessee.
