1. Darryl Strawberry

As much as he disappointed us at the end of his time in New York, Darryl Strawberry garners the number one spot pretty easily. Darryl is another homegrown Met, drafted first overall in 1980. His debut was in 1983 at 21 years old. In some circles, he had the nickname the “Black Ted Williams”. On a personal note, I didn’t come around when Teddy played, but I know a natural swing when I see one and Strawberry simply had a flawless swing.

His career with the Mets speaks for itself. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 1983 and was selected to the All-Star game every year after that he was with the team. Strawberry went for at least 26 home runs every year in New York and eclipsed 100 RBI three different times. Memorable home runs include the one he hit late in game seven of the 1986 World Series, and a game winner he hit late in the 1985 season to keep the Mets in the race with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Maybe someone out there wanted Duke Snider on the list from the early days? No matter your age, comment below, I want to hear all of the Mets fans opinions on this.
