New York Rangers: Legend Rod Gilbert surprises fan at road game in Vegas
New York Rangers legend Rod Gilbert makes attending a road game very special for one of his fans.
One could argue that Rod Gilbert is the greatest living member of the New York Rangers family. He is the franchise leader in goals and points, among other things. He scored 97 points in two separate seasons and went for over 80 points in two others. Gilbert also posted seven hat tricks in his career, a franchise best as well. For anyone who saw him play, Rod Gilbert is simply legendary.
When a player like that reaches out to the fans, it becomes something very special. Often times there are older players that want nothing to do with the fans. If a player breaks that mold it is more than worth it to report it, simply because it doesn’t happen that often. Too much time is spent on players doing the wrong thing, let’s talk about someone doing the right thing.
As reported on the league website, there was a Rangers fan in attendance when the team took on the Vegas Golden Knights on January 7th. The fan attended the game wearing a Rod Gilbert jersey. Gilbert happened to be at the game as well and he surprised the fan with a greeting, which he documented on his Twitter account:
Next: Rangers have a tough time adapting
The fact that a legend like Gilbert took the time to reach out to a fan is how memories are created. Too often we hear about players that give autographs that charge too much, or if you meet them in a random situation, don’t give you the time of day. My wife had a personal experience with that, though I will leave the legend’s name out of it. Let’s just say it was wrong and she still remembers the details to this day.
Great job by Gilbert taking a few moments during warmups to make a Rangers fan feel special.
