The Money is There

The other question is the one that always comes up, and that is the question of money. How much will it take? Someone is going to pay Kirk Cousins a lot of money to quarterback their franchise. If you read the reports, it is likely to go over $27 million per season, an astronomical number. A team that needs a quarterback is going to, like it was said in Jerry Maguire, show him the money.

Why can’t it be the Jets this time? They have the money available to them, and then some. All of the reports agree that the Jets have approximately $80 million in available cap space. That is before they make any other moves. When the inevitable finally happens and Muhammad Wilkerson is released, that will bring the number up to nearly $100 million. It’s not as if the Jets need to go to the Shark Tank to finance the business.

There is no monetary reason to stay away. The Jets need to overpay if they have to in order to bring Cousins in. The team needs something to get the fan base juiced up about again. It’s similar to 2015 when they brought back Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, among other players. They gave the base something to get excited about. Solving the quarterback problem with a big time free agent will bring everyone back to MetLife Stadium this fall.
