For my second installment of potential draft picks for the New York Knicks, I will be focusing on Villanova Small Forward, Mikal Bridges. Mikal Bridges is a junior who has been a consistent powerhouse for the Wildcats in his three years at Villanova.

If the season were to end today, the New York Knicks would most likely be picking anywhere from the 10th pick to the 15th pick. I have chosen Mikal Bridges because of the fact that he may be available in that window.

Small Forward is a position where the Knicks could seriously improve. At the moment they have Lance Thomas starting who is averaging 4.5 points, 0.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. Not quite the numbers a team would need in order to be consistent day in and day out. With that being said, the Knicks should focus on drafting a small forward, and that’s where Mikal Bridges comes in.

So far this season, Bridges is averaging 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, numbers that are a significant improvement from Lance Thomas. From last season to this season, Bridges’s numbers have nearly doubled and that has been the case ever since his freshman year.

If the Knicks were to take a chance on Bridges, they would see that he is a hard worker and someone they can count on game in and game out to put up consistent numbers. So far this season, Bridges has scored at least 10 points in all but two games, and at least 20 points in seven games.

The Knicks know what they would be getting if they were to draft Bridges. They would be taking a hard-working, versatile player who will only improve every single season. Bridges is a player who can take a role as a leader as he has this season, or he can be a role player as he did the previous two seasons.

Bridges has a high basketball IQ and he knows what is going to happen before it even happens. He is a fantastic defender who is averaging 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

Bridges is one of the better players who will be available in the 2018 NBA Draft, and if he is available when the New York Knicks are on the clock, they need to take a serious look at him.
