We have said it all year long but will say it again. What a pleasant surprise this guy was? I mean, nobody said he was going to be Tom Brady, but most of us didn’t expect very much out of him. We expected the kids to be playing quarterback by the bye week at the latest.

But that’s not what we got, was it? Instead we got an efficient quarterback that nine times out of ten, put the team in position to win. If the team had a few more horses, we might be having a different conversation about this season. Yes, he threw some bad interceptions, but they mostly occurred when he was trying to make a play and bring the team back late.

The numbers above speak for themselves. McCown was at or near the top of the league in completion percentage for most of the season. The young receivers were comfortable with him. He got the team to believe in him. Josh McCown was an excellent “bridge” quarterback. The grade is only tempered by the lack of wins.

FINAL GRADE: B+
