New York Jets: Kirk Cousins is the answer to the quarterback question
To fix the quarterback position the right way, the New York Jets must bring in Kirk Cousins.
Speculating as to where the New York Jets are going to find a quarterback is almost as guaranteed as death and taxes. It’s a question that has come with the territory for decades. Players come and go yet the problem is never solved. Not for the long-term anyways. The Jets have short-term success with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Sanchez and Josh McCown but never any success that is sustained.
Many eyes are on the franchise heading into 2018. There are big named free agents at quarterback as well as a much talked about draft class. This could finally be the year that the Jets come up with a good answer at quarterback. More than any year in recent memory, the suffering has the chance to come to an end.
But how do the Jets get it done?

OH they could do it with one of the top quarterbacks in this draft. But do we really know what we are getting when we do that? There are plenty of bust stories from the draft. All of the names that have been discussed could end up with terrible careers.
That’s the risk you take with draft prospects.
Some already come with red flags. Josh Rosen, for example, who some have touted as the most pro-ready, has had off the field problems. Here is what an anonymous AFC executive had to say (via Peter King):
"“He’s the one I know the best—he’s got size, athletic tools, velocity. He’s just a mess off the field and he’s coming off the injury. He needs to grow up, but the talent is off the charts.”"
That’s a telling statement. That executive didn’t say that Rosen has character issues, he said he’s a mess. That’s not good. According to the Big Lead, Rosen has had bouts with immaturity. He had a hot tub in his dorm and was involved with some immature pranks. Part of the problem is a sense of entitlement. His parents are highly successful. His Dad is a surgeon and his Mom edited magazines. That often causes a child to act like the world owes them something.
You know who had a similar problem? Johnny Manziel. His family is in the oil industry in Texas, which is like being a stockbroker in New York. He too suffered from a sense of entitlement. The Jets don’t need someone like this on their team.
Recently, based on the current draft order, there has been a groundswell with Jets fans for the team to select Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma. However, he may be of questionable character as well. Mayfield had a public intoxication arrest back in February where he had to be tackled by a police officer. The incident was caught on multiple dash cams.
For anyone that has put him out of his mind, alcohol was part of the Johnny Football problem as well. The Jets DO NOT need to walk down that rat hole. Getting someone that already has character flaws is asking for a disaster to happen.

The Jets could sign Teddy Bridgewater but does anybody really know what he is physically until he gets back out there? He could be the next Dee Milliner for the Jets. The idea is simply too risky. A lot of people like Tyrod Taylor but he was, at least temporarily, benched by the Bills. He just doesn’t read as a franchise quarterback.
It will take a lot of money but we know who Kirk Cousins is. He has completed 65.7% of his passes over his career and has a rating of 94.8. His TD to INT ratio is 99-52. Cousins will turn 30 in August of 2018. He has plenty left in the tank. Supplement this guy with a solid offensive line, another weapon on the outside and an edge pass rush, there is no telling how good Cousins could be.
And he is the safest bet of them all, albeit the most expensive.
