Buffalo Bills: Owner Terry Pegula speaks out about officiating
Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula spoke out about NFL replays. His team was directly affected by the refs in their most recent loss to the Patriots.
Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula went on a local radio station Tuesday to blast the replay system after the Kelvin Benjamin play on Sunday.
Here is some of what the Bills’ owner aid via Mike Rodak of ESPN :
"“They obviously weren’t looking at the same television the rest of the country was looking at, were they?..But everybody I talked to — and they’re not Bills fans and they’re not necessarily anti-Patriots — they’re all baffled by that call, which just wasn’t consistent with what replay [should be]…..I don’t know what’s going on, but we have to fix it. And I’m not saying that as the owner of the Bills; I’m saying that as a football fan. We can’t have stuff like this happening in our league.”"
I fully agree with what he said. It is time to say something and defend his team.
Since taking over in 2014 he rarely makes headlines for anything.
With his team right on the cusp of the playoffs and surprising a lot of people, Sunday’s loss stung big time.
Whether or not one agrees with what Pegula said, its awesome to see an owner defend his team and take a stance on an issue so prevalent to the league right now.
The particular call is far from the reason the Bills did not win.
However, it exposes a much bigger league-wide issue. Terry Pegula has finally had enough.
Next: Bills path to the playoffs more difficult after loss
Only time will tell if he acts on his words and truly does something about it.
So, if instant replay affects the Bills in next week’s game in Miami with the playoffs also on the line, then some questions will definitely need answering.
Respect to you, Terry Pegula. Defending your team publicly is one of the biggest steps to being a better owner and he seems to be heading in the right direction.
