New York Mets fans deserve more than an owner like Fred Wilpon, who has clearly lost touch with the fan base.

It’s difficult enough to be a New York Mets fan, isn’t it? Mets fans have suffered quite a bit through the years including the most recent season. This was not supposed to be a team that lost 92 games, but that is what injuries can do to any team. Injuries have that effect on a team with very little depth like the Mets. Fans don’t need any help making it more difficult to be a fan of the team.

They certainly don’t need the owner to make it more difficult, yet that is exactly what owner Fred Wilpon does. We have talked about the fact that he needs to be more transparent and that the fans deserve better. After the recent moves made, it’s clear that it is worse than that. Fred Wilpon has lost touch with the fan base and has no idea what they want. It’s a shame because the Mets fan base is one of the most dedicated out there.

The recent days and weeks have been interesting. Fans know what is going on. There are many holes for this team to fill before the start of the season. The Mets have signed a few players, mostly to minor league deals. Anthony Swarzak was the name of note. Not only are the Mets not making moves, the owner seems to be angry when the Yankees make moves. Wilpon doesn’t understand how the Yankees can sustain and continue to win when they bring on these big contracts. He says the model doesn’t work.

Umm…OK. The results seem to tell otherwise but OK. Whatever floats your boat there Fred.

So what, if any, big moves have been made? Well, we have the beleaguered general manager Sandy Alderson. Some believe he is a puppet of Wilpon, some just think he isn’t any good. Most fans think it’s time to go another direction.

What do the Mets do? Extend Alderson’s contract. No terms of the contract are known at this time.  The team is getting hammered for not making any significant moves and lowering the payroll. Wilpon responds to the situation by re-signing the guy that isn’t making any moves.

Does that make sense?

We all remember Omar Minaya. He had his run but he was basically run out of town. Fans had enough of Omar. Now the Mets bring him back as a special assistant to Sandy Alderson! That’s the move that will bring us back to the playoffs, Mets fans.

How do we say this nicely? We don’t. SAY WHAT?!?!?! This is the priority of the ownership? If this isn’t prove that Fred Wilpon is clueless I don’t know what is.

It might just be time for the MLB to step in. Fred Wilpon may be a nice, old man but he doesn’t know what he is doing for the product on the field. Keep this in mind, the team has not won a title since he took over sole ownership. When he spends money recycling general managers for no apparent reason, you see why. The man has lost touch and he is clueless.
