The Jets were heading into the second season with Bill Parcells. They had just missed the playoffs after a loss in the final game and Bill wanted to take his team to the next level. We know the result was an AFC title game appearance, but one of the biggest acquisitions came in the fourth round of the draft with the selection of Jason Fabini.

If you read enough of my work you know the value I place in the offensive line. Having a good offensive line can hide a lot of problems and having a bad one makes small problems larger. It is of the utmost importance to build the offense from up front, especially to play Bill Parcells’ style of physical football. Jason Fabini began as a right tackle and started all 25 games he was active under Parcells.

In the post-Parcells era, starting with Al Groh, Fabini was moved to the all important blind side. Left tackle is one of the premium positions in all of football. Starting in the year 2000, Fabini started every game at left tackle, not missing a game until 2005 when he only played in nine. He really served as an anchor at the position until some guy named D’Brickashaw Ferguson came along.

Not too bad for a fourth round pick from Cincinnati.
