Which Third Baseman Should the New York Yankees Sign?

If you were keeping tally, you noticed that Todd Frazier had a 4-3 advantage over Mike Moustakas in our key categories.

When it comes down to who’s the better overall player, I’d probably have to give the nod to Moustakas. However, that’s why he’ll be harder to sign and is less of a realistic option for the New York Yankees.

More from New York Yankees

Most likely, Moustakas’s market will get going after the Orioles make a decision on whether or not they’re going to trade Manny Machado this winter and the Blue Jays do the same with Josh Donaldson. If you take the trade options away, Moustakas is clearly the top third baseman available.

If no more trades are made, the St. Louis Cardinals have a hole at the hot corner and it makes way too much sense for Moustakas to fill it.

Todd Frazier’s other option in free agency is the Atlanta Braves who need a third baseman as well as a veteran leader. Frazier may want a long-term deal but it seems safe to say he’d rather play with the Yankees for one year than end up in the middle of the rebuild in Atlanta.

Next: New York Yankees third base options not named Machado

Some Yankees fans may be holding on hope that they will pull off a blockbuster trade for Machado and quite honestly, I am too. However, we have to be realistic and prepare for plan B.

Although signing Mike Moustakas is exciting in theory, the New York Yankees and their fans should be looking to Todd Frazier to play third base in 2018.
