Power at the Plate

Another power bat is probably the last thing the 2018 New York Yankees need, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t take one.

Both Todd Frazier and Mike Moustakas are considered power hitters. Frazier has 175 career dingers while Moustakas has 119.

Frazier has averaged 25 home runs per season over his seven-year career. He’s hit at least 27 homers over the last four seasons with a career-high 40 dingers in 2016 with the White Sox.

Frazier’s home run swing certainly produces more strikeouts. The Toddfather has averaged 117 strikeouts per year over his career.

Moustakas has averaged just 17 home runs per year over seven seasons but if you take out his injury-shortened 2016 season, his average bumps up to close to 19. Either way, his 38 dingers last season are by far a career best.

“Moose” would have the potential for another 30+ home run season in Yankee Stadium. His left-handed swing would play perfectly into the short porch in right field.

With lower home run totals, Moustakas also provides fewer strikeouts. He averages just 73.6 strikeouts per season.

When Frazier hit a career-high 40 homers, he struck out 163 times. When Moustakas hit his career-high 38 home runs, he struck out just 94 times.

Frazier is more of a home run or strikeout player and the Yankees already have plenty of those. Moustakas brings power without sacrificing contact and as a lefty, could increase his power numbers in the Bronx and balance out the Yankees lineup.
