With a busy offseason thus far, the New York Yankees have separated themselves from the rest of the American League East.

The New York Yankees have put the American League East on notice and if the rest of the division thought they’d have another season to prepare for the Yankees; the shock came in the form of 6’6 python armed Giancarlo Stanton.

Brian Cashman, armed with a new five-year deal from ownership, had the mandate to not only cut budget but compete. Questioning his methods have been the most written and discussed and set of events every year but he has now proven his ability to wield and deal in the trade market.

Removing Chase Headley was a sad turn of events for the veteran leadership he brings but clearing $13 million of salary looks so sweet with Stanton on tap to take up around $22-25 million this year.

Reports have been circling that the Yankees will look to add two starting pitchers and possibly work towards a six-man rotation, which it’s about time. With the high-powered arms that the Yankees look to deploy and Masahiro Tanaka, who matured in a six-man rotation, it can only aid in keeping the arms healthy of fireballers and split-finger hurlers alike.

CC Sabathia would be a welcomed, known entity, but only if he can be brought back for the right price. The Yankees have too much young talent available to be a part of overpaying CC and his balky knee. With multiple options available, smart money for the Yankees says to bring in a young starter via trade and call up Justus Sheffield or let Chad Green start after a year of excellence as a long reliever.

Lastly, the Yankees can finish their push for the thrown by clearing themselves of Jacoby Ellsbury and his contract. He may not want to move but by staying, all he his doing is hurting this team. His $68 million of remaining salary will be hard to move, but the Yankees could give some cash considerations and a young player to sweeten the deal for the taker of this contract.

I’m not concerned about the holes left in the infield by the current trades with Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar waiting in the wings like ready bake biscuits. The New York Yankees will be able to turn back towards the vision of keeping the youth movement in full swing and taking the AL East, a division they almost captured last year during their “rebuild”.

Next: Manny Machado to the New York Yankees is inevitable

The rest of the division will have to respond to the current moves sooner than later, but for right now, with the snow coming down in New York, the rest of the division better prepare for the blizzard of success that is sure to follow the Yankees’ strong offseason moves.
