The New York Jets went into Denver and got obliterated by the score of 23-0.

Normally this would be the time of the evening that we would pick our Wing Earners. Those are, for anyone who doesn’t know, our fancy term for game balls. However, the New York Jets looked so bad on Sunday afternoon against the Broncos, nobody earned their wings. Therefore, we are going to bypass the segment this week and instead simply talk through a brief recap.

23. 45. 0. 30. Final

There isn’t a lot to really be said about this one. The most accurate word that comes to mind is “domination”. The Broncos dominated the game from the opening kickoff until the final gun. They didn’t let the Jets get anything going. Not for even a brief moment.

Right away it started. The Jets didn’t even register a first down until the second quarter. The running game was looking like it did for most of the season. I believe the word is “stagnant”. The offensive line needs some work on getting push to open up some holes. To say it hasn’t happened for the majority of the 2017 season would be putting it mildly.

That put the game solely on the shoulders of Josh McCown and it wasn’t a great afternoon for him. His line was 6-12 for 46 yards and one interception. It looked just that bad. The throws were inaccurate and the interception was bad. He stared down his receiver and allowed the deep safety to jump the pass fairly easily.

He didn’t get much help from his receivers, with drops from trustworthy targets like Robby Anderson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The offense was out of sync all day long and the defense stayed strong until it ran out of gas.

Bryce Petty ended up finishing the game after McCown left the game with injury. He was injured earlier in the game and returned, but a wrist injury in the second half ended his day for good. Petty did not look like the player he did during the preseason, going 2-9 for 14 yards. By the end of the game, John Morton was running the football and not even letting Petty do anything. It just exuded confidence, though Petty didn’t do much to earn it on this day.

Next: The next steps for the Jets secondary

Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, McCown suffered a hip pointer and broke his left hand. He will undergo more tests to determine if he will be available against the Saints next week or if Petty will get the call. Whomever it is, they can’t play much worse than it went today in Denver. They can only go up from here. Bury the football and move on.
