Protect the Quarterback

More from Empire Writes Back

The title of this slide really should be Protect the quarterback against the guy in the picture. Von Miller can wreck a game all by himself. We have all seen it happen. Miller can make it happen for the Denver Broncos. He is currently ninth in the league with nine sacks. Miller can move up that list easily with a big game on Sunday.

We have talked at great length about the season of Josh McCown. 18 touchdowns is his career high and there are still four games to go. He has only thrown eight interceptions and his completion percentage is 67.8%. McCown has been everything the Jets have asked of him and more. However, he can’t do it lying on the ground. In games he has been sacked four or more times, the Jets record is 1-3. If he has been sacked three times or less, the Jets record is 4-4.

This will be a major test for both Jets starting tackles, Brandon Shell and Kelvin Beachum. According to Pro Football Focus, Brandon Shell is the 43rd best pass blocking tackle in the league, and Kelvin Beachum is the 24th best in the same category. In short, Von Miller could take either of these two guys to school. If they need help, get them the help. Chip this guy, do whatever needs to be done to keep Josh McCown on his feet.
