With the New York Giants looking for a fresh start this is the perfect opportunity to discuss the directions that they should go.

Starting with Jerry Reese, with his removal from the building the New York Giants need to start revamping how they process information in the scouting department. Not only can they modernize but they should also begin diversifying; with so much talent at every level of college football and Brent Jones showing that the Canadian to NFL transition can work not only as depth but as a solid starting option at several positions.

The next GM will need to look to think outside of the box and be willing to move back in trade situations but also have the courage to move up and get the players they want. Quantity is nice but quality wins games (just ask the Browns how having 10+picks every year is working so far).

The next GM will also have some work to do in cleaning up the books and situating new contracts and what players are really worth to the team or if they are worth more as trade bait to fill positions of need or add to the pool of draft picks.

Next the Giants head coach needs to revamp both sides of the ball if Steve Spagnuolo stays after his stint as the interim head coach and isn’t given the job my guess would be the next head coach would look to bring in his own people. I personally have always been a fan of Spags and what he can do for the team with his schemes and in-game adjustments once he’s allowed to have complete control of the defense.

Offensively it’s time for the whole crew to go including Mike Sullivan who helplessly stood by and watched Geno Smith bring nothing good to the table. The West Coast offense has not proven fruitful on the east coast and it’s time for the Giants to get  back to playing football this also starts with having a line but I’ll save that for the next installment.

Last focus point for now the Giants need to start planning for the future and I don’t care if Davis Webb comes in and lights it up for three games, they need to dig a little deeper into the treasure chest and with the current second overall pick they should be pulling out Lamar Jackson.

The next GM has a lot to do and I will go into deeper thoughts in picks in the coming weeks but if Lamar Jackson isn’t the pick here then someone should be fired again. Jackson is by far the most talented QB coming out of the draft, has played at a high level against top college competition and has almost no help on the offense side of the ball save two decent running backs. The hype train on Josh Rosen (the next Manziel) and Sam Darnold is just that, clear hype. I’ve always leaned towards numbers and in the great old U.S.A Josh and Sam haven’t shown me enough.

Next: The Giants finally fire Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese

If the next GM goes out looking for some great white knight he’s going to miss out on the savior of the franchise in Lamar Jackson and with talent like his and time to groom him like Green Bay did Aaron Rodgers the Giants could have two young studs vying for positions once Eli Manning rides off into the sunset. The offensive line can be fixed in Free Agency that top 5 first round pick needs to be a difference maker for the future.
