Signing with another contender

With CC yet to show a willingness to take a discount to remain with the Yankees, he may be able to boost his $242+ million career earnings a bit more if he decides to sign elsewhere.

More from New York Yankees

CC would be leaving behind all he has known for nearly the last decade to chase a chip in the role of a mercenary, but the market for a veteran presence is always thriving, as young teams are constantly in need of that one piece to finally take the next step.

For the 2017 Houston Astros, that man was Carlos Beltran, who went out on top after one season in H-Town. For the 2017 New York Yankees, that man was CC Sabathia.

Oops.

Every rising team needs that glue guy to bring everything together, and there are plenty who would be willing to dish out a rotation spot along with some dough to potentially get what the Yankees got this postseason from CC.

The Astros, Nationals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, and Dodgers are all teams I could see throwing themselves into the mix if it comes to that point. However, considering Sabathia’s knee issues, I would expect him to stay away from National League teams where he would have to bat.

A Cleveland return could even be on the table too.
