New York Yankees: CC Sabathia’s options this offseason
By Alex Mazer
Back to the Yankees
We go from sending him home, to sending him home.
With the conclusion of the 2017 season, CC Sabathia has officially spent more years in a Yankee uniform than in any other (Cleveland or Milwaukee). If the 37-year old would like one last hurrah, it’s going to be right here in the Bronx.
Sabathia bleeds pinstripes at this point. A veteran among a youthful clubhouse, CC has a defined role on this team and is highly valued by his teammates for it.
CC has vowed not to allow the managerial hunt to factor into his free agency decision and instead placed his emphasis strictly on seeking an opportunity to win.
And he has that here, along with some clear unfinished business to accentuate the desire. Having taken the mound, and swallowed the loss, in the Yankees ALCS Game 7 defeat to the World Series-winning Houston Astros, few might have a bigger chip on their shoulder to get back out there and make things right.
Sabathia was the Yankees go-to guy this postseason. His consistency was the one constant the Yankees grew to be able to rely on this past October — a trait which clearly distinguished him from the Yankees youth. In four postseason starts, he went 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA, holding hitters to a .216 BA and a .547 OPS.
The man out-dueled CY Young winner Corey Kluber … twice.
Clearly, there is something left in that 300-pound tank, and with nowhere to go but up for this rising Yankees team, why wouldn’t CC Sabathia want to come along for the ride?
