New York Giants: Who will be the quarterback in 2018?

Other Veteran Options
Alex Smith
The Kansas City Chiefs are sticking with Alex Smith despite losing five of their last six games. However, rookie Patrick Mahomes is the future of the franchise.
Kansas City traded up in the draft to select Mahomes and he’s expected to start in 2018, at the latest. Even Smith doesn’t expect to be back next year.
If the Chiefs cut Smith after this season, there should be a fair share of interested teams. His recent struggles won’t help his market but his career pedigree will get him a starting job.
Aside from his running ability, however, there’s nothing Alex Smith can do that Eli Manning can’t. If the New York Giants are going to move on from Manning, Smith doesn’t seem like the next step.
Tyrod Taylor
Despite only being benched for a half, Tyrod Taylor does not seem to be part of the future for the Buffalo Bills.
Tyrod has been underappreciated his whole career in Buffalo and they don’t seem to have plans with him as a member of their team in 2018. The Bills will reportedly shop Taylor this offseason.
The Giants could send a mid-round pick Buffalo’s way if they thought Tyrod could win them games. “T-Mobile” can run the ball as well as pass it, something Giants fans never saw with Eli Manning. Most importantly, Taylor doesn’t turn the ball over.
If the Giants defense plays up to its potential and Tyrod Taylor takes care of the football, New York could have a winning formula. Depending on Buffalo’s asking price, a Tyrod trade is worth considering.
Case Keenum
We’ve mentioned how well Case Keenum has played this year but that the Minnesota Vikings view Teddy Bridgewater as their future.
Whether or not Bridgewater plays this season, the Vikings may still sign him long-term. If they do so, Keenum has played well enough to earn a starting job somewhere else in 2018.
If he hits free agency, there should be a market for him. Perhaps the New York Giants will be one of the teams interested in him. Keenum could be the perfect bridge quarterback while a young draft pick adjusts to the NFL.
Why not have Eli Manning be that bridge quarterback? Well, for as good as he’s played this season, Case Keenum would still cost less than Manning.
