New York Giants: Who will be the quarterback in 2018?
By Sean Dyer
Teddy Bridgewater
The New York Giants should be keeping close eyes on the Minnesota Vikings. Not only is Sam Bradford a short-term option, but Teddy Bridgewater could be the long-term solution.
Bridgewater returned to the Vikings active roster two weeks ago after missing nearly two years with a torn ACL and dislocated knee.
The Vikings believe he is their future at quarterback but he’s a free agent at year’s end. They will have a hard time committing money to Bridgewater long-term if they don’t see what he can do on the field. The problem is, Case Keenum won’t let Teddy get on the field.
Keenum has been fantastic since taking over for Bradford early in the season. He’s gone 7-2 with 14 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 96.2 Quarterback Rating.
If Keenum keeps winning games for Minnesota, Bridgewater might not get to see the field. If this is the case, perhaps the Vikings will let Bridgewater explore free agency.
If Bridgewater hits the open market, the New York Giants should pursue him. Bridgewater is a former first-round draft pick with franchise quarterback potential and he is still only 25 years old.
His knee injury was gruesome but he’s worked his way back and is ready to go. He’s just being blocked in Minnesota by a quarterback who is on fire. The Giants do not have such a player.
It is rare to find a young franchise quarterback on the free agent market. If Teddy Bridgewater is available, the New York Giants need to strongly consider signing him.
