You’re Not a New York Mets Fan

Am I just trying to troll New York Mets fans? Of course! But if you think about it, being a New York Yankees fan is pretty great.

No matter what you’re arguing with a Mets fan about, you have the 27-time World Series champions thing in your back pocket. Your greatest players (Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, etc.) are baseball icons. You almost never have to worry about if your team will have enough money to sign a certain player. It really is pretty great.

Even looking to the future, the Yankees now have a young team that just made an improbable playoff run, one the game’s best farm systems, and if they get under the luxury tax threshold, they’ll soon be back to spending money like a trust fund baby.

More from New York Yankees

The New York Mets do have a good chance of bouncing back in 2018. They have one of the better starting rotations in the league when they’re healthy. Michael Conforto looks to be the real deal. And they will have a chance to watch top prospects Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith hopefully blossom into the future of the franchise.

But they still have to deal with the Wilpons being more worried about saving money than putting a contender on the field. All of the promise of that great starting rotation hinges upon getting healthy, which has been difficult for them over the last few years. And the Yankees’ success doesn’t make things any easier.

To be honest, I have no problem with the New York Mets. I don’t mind rooting for them when they’re not playing the Yankees. They’re essentially the Yankees’ little brother.

However, after the respective 2017 seasons that the Yankees and Mets had, I couldn’t resist. After a season like the Mets just had, I sure am thankful that I’m a New York Yankees fan.
