Having One of Baseball’s Best Farm Systems

This is something new for Yankees fans. Most of us are used to the Yankees trading away top prospects to add a veteran to a contending team and relying on their financial advantage to improve their team instead of doing so through their farm system.

But these aren’t your father’s New York Yankees. These aren’t even your older brother’s New York Yankees.

Even after trading away top prospects to acquire Sonny Gray, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle, and Todd Frazier at this year’s deadline, the Yankees still have one of the best and deepest farm systems in baseball.

The Yankees have so much talent that they just had to trade away a few players to make room on their 40-man roster for better ones ahead of the Rule 5 Draft.

Gleyber Torres is New York’s top prospect and is ranked by MLB.com as the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball. The Yankees also have Clint Frazier who, despite graduating from prospect status, is still young and has his whole career ahead of him.

Chance Adams, Justus Sheffield, and Domingo Acevedo form a solid trio of pitching prospects. Estevan Florial is one of the faster-rising prospects in the game. And Miguel Andujar is waiting for his turn at consistent at-bats after going 3-4 with four RBI in his major league debut in 2017.

That young core we talked about earlier has more help on the way. Being able to turn top prospects into major league contributors saves money and is the best way to achieve sustainable success.

Yankees fans should be thankful for the opportunity to potentially watch a contending team for years to come.
