After years of throwing exorbitant amounts of money at aging veterans, the New York Yankees finally have a young core again.

When the Yankees were the dynasty of the 1990s, they had the Core Four of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, and Mariano Rivera (as well as Bernie Williams who should have been included in the group). Now, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Luis Severino will lead this team for the next decade in a hopefully similar fashion.

The World Series success of the Core Four will be tough to replicate (four titles in five years including three in a row from 1998-2000). However, this new young core gives Yankees fans hope of at least competing for a World Series title every year.

Judge, Sanchez, and Severino helped New York make it all the way to Game 7 of the ALCS this year in what was the first full MLB season for any of them. As they all continue to develop and mature, the sky’s the limit with this group.

Yankees fans are used to success. 27 world championships can make you complacent. But don’t take this young core for granted. Be thankful for Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Luis Severino.
