CC Sabathia

CC Sabathia had a renaissance year in 2017, going 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA, and is now a free agent at 37 years old.

Sabathia has expressed an interest in returning to the Yankees and after the regular and postseason that CC just had, the Yankees should want to bring him back on a one-year deal.

CC provides veteran leadership to a young team and after reinventing himself, he was one of the Yankees’ most reliable starters in 2017. Sabathia was also New York’s stopper in the playoffs, posting a 2.37 ERA in four starts.

Re-signing Sabathia to a one-year deal makes a lot of sense for the New York Yankees. However, he is 37 and after playing so well in the postseason, he could get other offers.

When saying that he’d like to be back in the Bronx, Sabathia has said that he understands the business side of things and if the Yankees don’t want him back, he’ll find somewhere else to play.

New York should not pursue any other starting pitchers until they exhaust their negotiations with Sabathia. But if CC finds somewhere else to play, the Yankees will have to look at other free agent starters who are in the same price range.
