New York Jets draft pick grades through bye week
By Nolan Rich
It’s halfway through the New York Jets 2017 season which means it’s time to breakdown how the Jets rookies have performed so far this season.
The New York Jets have been far better than expected to begin the 2017 season. So how have the draft picks looked so far? Let’s talk about it.
When Jamal Adams fell to the Jets at the sixth pick, the Jets front office including General Manager Mike Maccagnan couldn’t believe that the were able to draft what many experts believed was the best defensive prospect in the draft. Through half the season he’s lived up to the hype.
Adams has shown his versatility in both coverage and the run game. While he has had some rookie mistakes in pass coverage, you can see his athleticism and that he has the physical tools to cover in the NFL.
In the meantime Adams has been a playmaker in the box with 48 tackles, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Jamal Adams has shown the raw talent and ability that he can be a potential defensive superstar in this league especially once he begins to understand the game and improve his coverage.
Once again Mike Maccagnan went with the best prospect on the board philosophy like he with Leonard Williams a few years ago. Once again that strategy has appeared to have paid off.
