Jay Bruce

The one “other” suggestion we received on Twitter was Ryon Healy but the Oakland A’s traded Healy to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. So we’ll take a look at a few of my “other” options.

First, we have Jay Bruce. The Yankees tried to trade for Bruce this past August but they were denied by the Mets, who instead traded Bruce to Cleveland.

Brian Cashman can now use his financial strength to sign Bruce this offseason without another team denying him.

Bruce hit .254 last year while hitting 36 homers and driving in 101 runs. His left-handed swing would likely produce even more home runs at Yankee Stadium.

Bruce could DH while providing insurance at first base in case Greg Bird runs into more injury trouble and even though the Yankees have a ton of outfield depth, Bruce is still a capable corner outfielder.

If Bruce is looking for everyday playing time in the field, the New York Yankees are not the team for him. However, if he’s looking to join a contender and is okay being a DH, there could be mutual interest between Bruce and the Yanks.
