Matt Holliday

19% of our voters wanted to see Matt Holliday return as the Yankees DH. The 37-year-old, 14-year veteran is now a free agent with an unknown future.

Holliday plans to keep playing in 2018 but what team he’ll play for is still up in the air.

Holliday struggled to stay healthy in 2017, spending time on the disabled list with a viral infection and a lumbar strain. He also struggled at the plate, hitting a career-low .231.

Despite only playing 105 games, however, Holliday still managed to hit 19 homers and drive in 64 runs. He also seemed to drive in big runs in big spots.

A Matt Holliday-New York Yankees reunion seems unlikely. Although Holliday was crucial in mentoring the younger players like Aaron Judge, he just wasn’t in the lineup enough to justify giving another contract.
